This policy creates standards for the permitting, placement and maintenance of edible landscapes on certain City-owned land to "encourage the planting and harvesting of locally-grown fruits, vegetables, nuts and other edible plant forms for public consumption." All plants and a planting plan must be approved by the city and followed by the permitee.
The purpose section states the law is intended to "encourage the planting and harvesting of locally-grown fruits, vegetables, nuts…" § 8.33(1).
"The purpose of this ordinance is to encourage the planting and harvesting of locally-grown fruits, vegetables, nuts and other edible plant forms for public consumption, and to regulate the permitting, placement and maintenance of such edible landscapes on certain City-owned land." § 8.33(1).
§ 8.33(3)
"The Food and Alcohol Policy Administrator shall ...with the relevant Department or Division Heads, establish a standard application and permitting process ...[t]his process shall be submitted to the Food Policy Council for its review and approval." § 8.33(4).
Penalites for failing to comply are denial of permit renewal or permit termination. § 8.33(6)(l).
The policy appears to create a new program or at least administrative process and responsibility for city staff.
