This provision sets a sustainability guideline for all site development plans within the city of providing community garden plots, at a minimum size of 20 square feet for fruit trees, or other means of food production on site for a minimum of 15 percent of residential units to foster local food production. According to section 18.40.200 of the code, site development plans must indicate how they substantially comply with this and other specified design guidelines.
See terminology including "safe" and "pedestrian-oriented." § 18.40.010.
See, e.g., reference to "sustainability" at § 18.40.342; and see also the comprehensive plan and community sustainability goals at § 18.40.010 (6).
See reference to "local food production" at § 18.40.342, which may or may not be intended to support economic goals.
Section 18.40.010 states the intent and purpose of the larger chapter. It provides, in part, that the site development regulations found therein "provide performance standards and design guidelines for the development and redevelopment of property" and that such "improvements contribute to safe surroundings for the community, enhance the livability of residential neighborhoods...and contribute to the image and appeal of the community for both residents and nonresidents."
